Description
A pH meter is a device used to measure the level of acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous solution. The pH is a scale that goes from 0 (very acidic) to 14 (very alkaline), with 7 being neutral. pH meters are essential tools in numerous fields, including chemistry, biology, agriculture, fish farming, the food industry, and the water industry, among others.
The basic operation of a pH meter involves the use of a specialized glass electrode containing a reference solution and a reference electrode. When the glass electrode comes into contact with a solution, an electrical potential difference is generated that is related to the acidity or alkalinity level of the solution. This potential difference is converted into a pH reading that is displayed on the meter display.
Some pH meters can also be calibrated using known pH solutions, such as buffer solutions, to ensure accurate measurements. In addition, there are portable pH meters for field use and more sophisticated laboratory pH meters with advanced features.
