Description
Nitrate Standard Solution Reagent, 200 mg/L NO3 (45.2 mg/L NO3-N), 500 mL HACH LCW827 is mainly used in the measurement of nitrate concentration in water and other liquids.
This reagent is used in laboratories and environmental analysis for water quality testing.
Main uses:
Water analysis: To determine the concentration of nitrates (NO3) in samples of drinking water, wastewater, surface water, among others. Nitrate is a common contaminant in water sources, mainly from fertilizers and agricultural wastes.
Quality control in industrial processes: In industries that handle liquids, such as water treatment, food and beverage production, to monitor nitrate levels.
Environmental research: In studies on pollution and aquatic ecosystem health, as high nitrate levels can affect water quality and aquatic life.
General mode of use:
Preparation of the standard solution:
Make sure that the standard solution is well shaken before use.
This reagent comes in a known concentration (200 mg/L NO3), so it is generally used for equipment calibration or for direct measurement.
Equipment calibration:
Use the standard reagent to calibrate the photometer or spectrophotometer according to the equipment instructions. Calibration is performed by introducing the standard solution into the instrument and following the calibration procedure specified in the instrument manual.
Generally, you will need to create a reference point for the measurements by comparing the sample with the standard solution.
Sample measurement:
Take a sample of the water (or other liquid) you wish to test.
It may be necessary to filter the sample if it contains large particles that may interfere with the measurement.
Add the specific reagent for nitrates (depending on the equipment you are using), which will react with the nitrates present in the sample.
Place the sample in the photometer or spectrophotometer and measure the absorbance at the specific wavelength.
Compare the results with the calibration performed with the standard solution to obtain the concentration of nitrate in the sample.
Considerations:
Proper Handling: Be sure to handle the reagent with care and following safety regulations, as it can be corrosive or irritating in contact with skin or eyes.
Storage: Store the reagent in a cool, dry place, protected from direct sunlight and in its original tightly closed container to maintain its efficacy.
The reagent has a known concentration of nitrate, which allows calibration of measuring equipment or accurate nitrate determinations in samples.
