The EcoLife PRO-2 nitrate meter is a portable device, produced to measure the quantitative nitrate content (rapid analysis) in fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and baby food. The device can also be used as a salimeter (TDS meter) that measures the concentration of inorganic impurities insoluble in water (the salts of different metals in general).
Nitrates are the salts of nitric acid (NO3), contained in the soil and absorbed by plants in the soil. Thanks to their positive influence on crop growth and fecundity and the speed of crop maturation, nitrates are widely distributed in agriculture.
Upon entering the human body, nitrites react with their microflora and are transformed into nitrites (NO2). Nitrites are absorbed into the bloodstream from the intestinal tract and, when added to hematoglobulin, form methylhemoglobin. Methylhemoglobin is a stable chemical compound that does not carry oxygen. It induces hypoxia, accumulation of lactic acid in tissues, poisoning and tissue histolysis.
However, most researchers today believe that cancer is the main danger, especially gastrointestinal cancer. With nitrites, carcinogenic amides and nitrate amines can be synthesized from almost any food in both the stomach and intestinal tract.
