Description
The HI98161 is a rugged, waterproof, and portable pH meter that measures pH and temperature using the specialized FC2023 Foodcare pH electrode. This professional and waterproof meter meets IP67 standards. The HI98161 is supplied with all the accessories needed to perform a pH/temperature measurement and comes in a durable thermoformed carrying case, which keeps meters, probes, and calibration standards safe.
One of the most common measurements in food products is pH. pH influences many qualities of food products, including taste, fermentations, texture, appearance, and shelf life. Foods are generally divided into two groups based on their pH value. These groups include acidic foods that have a naturally low pH of 4.6 or less and low-acid foods that have pH values greater than 4.6 pH and water activity greater than 0.85. Low-acid foods can adjust the pH with an acid to lower the final pH and become an acidified food. Maintaining a lower pH helps prevent the growth of unwanted bacteria.
Food products can provide a number of challenges for the person who needs to measure pH. Food products tend to be solid, semi-solid, or an aqueous compound with a high solids content. All three types of samples will cover the sensitive surface of the glass membrane and/or obstruct the reference junction. The FC2023 supplied with the HI98161 is specifically designed to measure pH in food. With a tapered tip for easy penetration, open junction that resists clogging, and a food-grade polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) plastic body that is resistant to most chemicals and solvents, including sodium hypochlorite. PVDF has high abrasion resistance, mechanical strength, and resistance to ultraviolet and nuclear radiation. PVDF is also resistant to fungal growth. The FC2023 is an ideal pH electrode for general use in food products that connects to the HI98161 with a quick-connect waterproof DIN connector, allowing it to be a secure, threadless accessory.
