Description
The HI97722 is an advanced portable photometer for measuring cyanuric acid in water. This meter offers a superior optical system that uses a reference detector and narrowband interference filters for extremely fast and repeatable measurements.
Cyanuric acid (CYA) is best known as a chlorine stabilizing reagent. It is widely applied in pool and spa treatment programs to slow down the breakdown of hypochlorous acid. In the outdoor areas of the pool, this process is accelerated by the effects of UV rays. When applied correctly, it can save up to 80% of normal chlorine consumption in swimming pools during peak months. Cyanuric acid is also used in chlorinated bleaches, selective herbicides, and bleaching agents.
The HI97722 uses an adaptation of the turbidimetric method to measure cyanuric acid concentrations up to 80 mg/L (ppm). When added to a sample containing cyanuric acid, the reagent will react to produce a white suspension; The higher the concentration of cyanuric acid, the cloudier the sample. The associated change is analyzed colorimetrically according to Lambert-Beer’s Law. As the change in the turbidity of the reacted sample increases, the absorbance at a specific wavelength of light also increases, while the transmittance decreases.
