Description
A fiber optic power meter is a tool used to measure the amount of optical power that is transmitted over an optical fiber. It is important to ensure that the transmitted optical signal has the necessary strength to be correctly detected at the receiving end.
It generally consists of an optical detector that is placed at the end of the optical fiber and a meter that shows the optical power detected in units such as dBm (decibels in relation to 1 mW).
In addition to measuring optical power, some fiber optic power meters can also measure the wavelength of the optical signal and provide information about the attenuation of the optical fiber.
They are also used in a wide variety of applications, from the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks to research in optical laboratories and the manufacture of optical components.
