Description
The HI 847492 self-diagnoses opacity in beer. It is designed according to the ASBC (American Society of Brewing Chemists) standard for opacity measurements in beers.
These instruments guarantee the color of the beer with accurate readings during the brewing process. The optical system consists of one LED and multiple detectors. Two, three, and four calibration points can be easily applied at any time using factory-supplied or user-calculated calibrations.
These meters have GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) features that allow maximum recording of information including time, on-demand recording (up to 200 measurements) and Fast Tracker Tag Identification System.
These meters incorporate a continuous measurement mode that helps measure the percentage of settlement of the matter and an average signal (AVG) that accumulates multiple readings giving the percentage of the total value. The averaging mode is particularly useful for measuring samples with suspended particles in different dimensions.
All three meters feature a user-friendly interface with a backlit LCD display, acoustic signals and on-display codes that guide the user step-by-step in their routine operations.
The HI 847492 reports the measurements in FTU (Formazin Turbidity Units).
The opacity of beer can be defined as a particular insoluble or semi-soluble matter, which is small enough to form a colloidal suspension in the beer. These particles scatter the transmitted light which can be observed as a degradation in the transparency of the beer.
Beer clarity is a constantly monitored parameter during the brewing process, and to ensure consistent beer quality, the brewer needs more than a visual inspection.
Certain substances can cause dullness in beer, but the most frequent problems are due to a snack of polyphenol with protein.
There are certain treatments available to prevent opacity in the beer. These products must be controlled at different steps during brewing, in particular before filtration and after the beer enters the individual tanks.
